Perhaps we should feed them (Turkana, Pokot and Samburu) some Norman Finkelstein; an outspoken/controversial figure in the Israel-Palestine Conflict. But I wonder how would Turkana’s, Pokot’s or Samburu’s Finkelsteins survive? Will bullets or excommunication if they (Finkelsteins) are lucky be their immediate potions to drink as soon as they start to speak about and against social/”traditional” values that perpetuate ethnic tensions and violence?
How can we lead more comfortable lives and face less political challenges and academic and social hardships than the “original” Finkelstein is facing and at the same time remain true to the causes that excite our passions and call us forward to commit?
From the Documentary:
Norman Finkelstein’s mother, “That Jews have a special obligation to try to ease the suffering of humanity because of what was done to them…”
Palestinian teenager, “Norman has enlightened Palestinian people. We have forgotten some things. We are so focused on fighting Israel. But Norman uses diplomacy and we have forgotten that. He gave me a different idea about Jews, that not all Jews are Zionists. Not all Jews have the same goal of killing Arabs. That’s the idea he gave me.”
